North Point State Park encompasses 1,310 acres in the town of Edgemere in Baltimore County. Like many area parks NPSP has a rich history. The park shows evidence of farming on the land going back 350 years. Even older than that are human records that are 9,000 years old. Eleven pre-historic archaeological sites are now in use throughout the park. In the War of 1812 it was the site of several skirmishes. The Defender’s Trail now marks that significance. Perhaps more interestingly is the park’s history as the Bay Shore Amusement Park. From 1906 to 1947, Bay Shore Amusement Park was one of the most grand and most visited parks for those hoping to escape the summer heat of the city. The original trolley shelter and fountain have been repaired to their original glory. After the Amusement Park closed up it was used for private hunting and camping retreats until 1987 when it became the park that it is today.

Visitors to North Point State Park now enjoy a wading beach, fishing pier, hiking and biking trails, protected wildlands, tidal fishing, flat-water paddling and bird watching.
